Route 16 Rehabilitation Project Moves Forward

HEB presented the results of the first phase of the Rt. 16 Reconstruction project to the City of Berlin earlier this month, outlining the existing conditions of the ±2.5 mile corridor from St. Anne Church to White Mountain Community College.  The results were presented in an Inventory Summary Report which summarized the efforts in defining the existing conditions including survey, wetland delineation, geotechnical investigations, ground penetrating radar and video of underground utilities.

“There are some unique challenges associated with reconstruction of this corridor including the underlying concrete pavement and dated drainage system.  We recognize this is not a simple roadway rehabilitation project, but we look forward to working with the City to address these challenges while also enhancing the user’s experience traveling along this corridor adjacent to the scenic beauty of the Androscoggin
River,” said Jay Poulin, Lead Civil Engineer.

The next phase of the project will include working with the City to develop design concepts and scoping the project to fit within the available funding.  Design and permitting phases are expected to continue into the summer and fall of 2015 with construction anticipated in 2016 & 2017.
