Loon Mountain Road Bridge Progress Update
The new Loon Mountain Road Bridge is beginning to look like a bridge! Steel girders for the south span began arriving on site on January 11 and installation began the following day. The process took approximately two weeks. Due to high winds on several days, installation was put on hold for the protection of the bridge and safety of the workers and surroundings. Each of the five, 290-foot girders (which arrived in three sections apiece) weighs approximately 83,000 pounds and was placed with a crane. Each girder took approximately eight hours to fully install. Now that the girders are in place, work is on hold due to winter conditions. However, R.M. Piper (contractor) will be back on site in March installing the precast deck panels. For more information about this project, contact Chris Fournier, PE at (603) 356-6936 or [email protected].
