Court Street Bridge

Court Street Bridge

Beginning in 2017, HEB worked with the City to replace the Court Street Bridge, a small 15-foot-long bridge on a busy stretch of roadway in the urban compact. The 1912 bridge was showing signs of severe deterioration therefore the City decided to move forward with replacement in coordination with an ongoing roadway and sidewalk reconstruction project. HEB coordinated the City’s conceptual roadway and sidewalk design into the bridge segment as well as sewer main and water main reconstruction through the project limits. The project was complicated by the presence of contaminated soils and groundwater from a previous leaking underground fuel storage tank nearby. Ultimately, a new 30-foot-long prestressed precast concrete bridge was constructed, founded on steel piles to bedrock. The bridge construction was completed over a 30-day roadway closure period utilizing Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques. The bridge was topped with an Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) wearing surface to provide quicker construction, unparalleled strength and durability, and reduced maintenance costs. The use of UHPC in this way is the first of its kind in New England. HEB provided construction observation and administration services. The project was funded by the NHDOT State Bridge Aid Program. Construction was completed in Fall 2022 by the Evroks Corporation.
