Stark Covered Bridge
The Stark Covered Bridge is widely known as the ‘most photographed bridge in New Hampshire.’ As one of the last remaining Paddleford truss bridges in New England, the bridge has a rich history. In 2011, the Town of Stark received funding through the National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program to rehabilitate the landmark structure. HEB Engineers was engaged to conduct a preliminary engineering report for the permanent rehabilitation of the bridge that would maintain its unique character. Services included on-site survey, borings, structural assessment of the condition of the timber members, and preparation of a study of alternatives. After acceptance of the report and the preferred alternate by the Town and NHDOT, HEB was engaged to design the rehabilitation which included a rehabilitated pier and abutments, along with new timbers wherever the originals could not be reused. HEB worked with the Town, NHDOT, and specialty timber bridge contractor, Alpine Construction, LLC, throughout the 16-month construction period, including full-time resident engineering services complying with NHDOT Local Project Administration (LPA) requirements. Construction was completed and the bridge re-opened during a dedication ceremony in July 2015.
